Project #2 : Kamakwie Orphanage

Energy For Opportunity wrapped up our second project last week, installing a solar electricity system at an orphanage in Kamakwie, up in Northern Sierra Leone. Although the implementation was often a bit tricky it was one of those great projects to be part of, as in the end the orphanage has light and power for their new computer lab and cinema! Princeton UniversityEFO is happy to announce that that it has recently become a participating partner in Princeton University’s International Internship Program. Starting from next year, EFO will be receiving Princeton student interns at its office Sierra Leone, who will be conducting research and work that contributes to EFO’s overall program and objectives. Specifically the Princeton interns will be involved in carrying out socio-economic research in EFO’s target regions, monitoring and evaluating previous EFO projects or designing specific solar power systems to be tested in the field. This past weekend we traveled up to Makeni to do the first two installations as EFO! It was a tough few days of work but we finished everything and can start building on this initial work. It’s been over three weeks since I got back to Sierra Leone and jumped into the process of getting EFO up and running here. It has certainly been a busy time, sometimes frustrating, often exhausting but ultimately successful and things are really moving forward.
